As a hybrid between two different species (a wolf and a serval) Hector was not brought into the world naturally. Typically the procedure needed for two different species to breed is expensive and therefore available to only the wealthiest of people.

Hector, however, was an experiment. He was born as the technology was just ending its final testing phases. He was raised by a scientist named Blake and intensively monitored during a large part of his life. Visits to the facility were often, as hybrids were prone to defects and needed the attention. Aside from eventually growing to an unusual size and height, however, he would never exhibit anything detrimental like so many cases before him.

He went to public school and despite his differences, didn't meet a whole lot of hostility from the other kids. With mixed instincts, he both wanted to form a 'pack' and be solitary. Finding a medium between these urges was never easy. Eventually, the solitary desire won out. He requested homeschooling for the majority of his highschool years.

Next he went to college, earning the education needed to work at the facility alongside the man he chose to call father.

Aside from some mental issues, Hector was a healthy and perfect success.
For years he worked at the facility, researching and developing the very same technology that brought him into being, among other things. He had his own house, far from any neighbors, and a stable income. Though outside of his workplace, he hardly had any friends nor a real desire to make them.

Until one night a black cat showed up at his door, begging to be fed and loved.

He took him in and named him Shadow.
