Huskyteer

A hundred-word story written to go on the back of my business card:

HUP, HUP! We strain, forepaws off the snow, breastbands pressing thick winter ruffs. The rope falls free and we surge forward into the pines, trail packed hard, sled runners rumbling like a far-off aeroplane. Tails bounce and swing as tough pads thump. We snatch the air, distil it into song and running and hot breath pluming into ice. Smell of moose drifts by but we won't be turned, don't stop until the anchor's jerk binds us to the frozen earth again. Heads slip from harness; one by one WE becomes just me and you and him and her and them.
