Little Baby Cotton Tail

HAZARD

My younger brother helped me catch this baby cotton tail who was rather tick infested and not in the best place. My grandpa is a cattle/farmer and rabbits are vermin. The holes they make can break cattles legs and they destroy crops if they over populate, which is something that takes a short time to occur if there's plenty of resources. So if my grandpa saw this little guy he might have shot him.

Well it took us some back and forth chasing, but we caught him. I've handled lots of wild rabbits on my grandparents farm so he wasn't hurt during the catching process. He was obviously scared, he didn't know if we were going to eat him. He never encountered humans this close before.

I quickly began grooming the ticks off his little ears and one wedged in his whiskers. The biggest one that I noticed, that looked like an earring, had fallen off during the chase. I took him inside the AC cooled house and gave him water. It's been 95-over 100 sometimes during the week and hadn't rained for awhile there either. He fell asleep in my hand at one point, and eventually I let him go. The cotton tails here are tough, but hasn't been many lately. Hopefully I helped this little guy out a little by removing the ticks that might have dehydrated him or made him sick.
