To the rhythm of the war drum

Hashire

"You brought this upon yourself, Mr. Mayor," a cold voice pierced the roar of the surrounding flames, accompanied by the heavy sound of a single pair of boots against the cobblestone, "You and all your little sheep"
The old man scrambled to get away from the heat of the flames, pushing himself back with his arms and one good leg, dragging the other burnt limb painfully across the ground. He cried out with every inch as pain seared through his body. Patches of fur had been burnt clean off in the explosion, leaving his skin raw and exposed to the surrounding heat, much of which was charred.
The footsteps grew louder as they approached, followed by a soft chuckle, "Hurts doesn't it?"
"FUCK YOU," The old dog barked in response, "YOU CRAZY BITCH! I SHOULD HAVE KILLED YOU WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!"
"You're absolutely right, Sir," a feminine figure stepped through the flames with a cruel smile on her muzzle, "You absolutely should have." Almost as if in response, her companion hissed and clicked its teeth, its eyes glowing with sadistic excitement. She reached up and gave its chin a gentle scratch as she looked over the crippled old dog cowering before her. "I have to say," she sneered, "this is a good look for you."
With a twisted snarl, he spat on her boot. "Go to hell" He growled. In a surge of anger, the shepherd lashed out with her boot to the side of the old mans head, knocking him against the hot ground littered with smoldering embers. As the hot embers dug into his charred skin and what was left of his fur, he howled and rolled onto his back, gripping his face in agony. When he opened his eyes, he found himself eye to eye with the barrel of a revolver, glowing in the light of the surrounding fires. His eyes traveled from the gun to the glowing red eyes of the shepherd and her demonic companion. She smiled down at him, "Where do you think I come from?"
