after the day he had his two encounters with Magnum, Sable began to follow him around a bit more. he was starting to grow on him, and the interest Magnum had shown in him surprised him. Magnum noticed him trying to get his attention while sitting at a shoreline one day, so he called out to him, asking if he wanted to talk to him. Sable nodded shyly, and they had their first conversation.

they started to see each other more, with Magnum coming to the same rocky lakeshore for them to meet. they would talk for hours, Magnum telling Sable about surface life and the things he couldn't learn about. Sable eventually told him that he was the one who saved him from drowning in the river, and he's always been alone his entire life, afraid to approach any surface folk, worried that he might scare people away, being a sea monster. Magnum understood why he would flee after rescuing him, he was afraid of scaring him and his surprised reaction when he first saw Sable while swimming definitely added to the sea monster's fears. he reassured him that people would get used to him if they got to know him, and see past his appearance. this eased Sable a bit, but not enough to completely venture outside his great lake home.
