The Magpie Tengu is said to be the spirit of a dead monk, possessing a magpie. The resulting creature is often seen to carry prayer beads. Its mastery and artistry of mantra can rival that of a master monk. It, however, has a great sense of faith, and will be left in disgrace if it encounters adversaries with greater piety than its own.
