Softkus are odd entities said to be hand-crafted from the goddess of sleep herself, giving their plush bodies life by tying bells of carved dream-dust around their necks. She blows the tiny babies gently from her hands as one would blow on a dandelion, and they make their journey from the dream real to the waking realm, where they find a child to bond to. They look very much like plushies as babies, and will push off other stuffed critters from the bed so they get the most attention, much like how a cuckoo chick shoves the competition out of the nest. Softkus feed on the dream dust that beings emit, absorbing them into the very same bells that are their life force and means of communicating to others of their kind. The softku grows as the bell does, and the bell and tusks develop etchings that mirror the softku's personality, experiences, and types of dreams that it feeds on. A softku needs it's host to sleep in order to feed, so they gently envelop them in stretchy arms and large tails, covering them in extremely soft fur that contains a powder which relaxes the mind if breathed in. They basically put them to sleep using extreme comfort. To ensure that nothing bad happens while they feed, they monitor their host's vital signs using the stretchy trunk-like appendage on their face, as well as faze into the dream realm while they sleep so that they won't be in any danger. Softkus will often follow their partners around half in the dream realm and half in the waking realm, invisible to the naked eye but still there.

To the citizens of the realm they are native to, the softkus are treated with utmost respect and adoration, partially because they were said to be created by their deity, and partially because the land is plagued with sleeplessness. A softku may accidentally be blown to other realms, such as our very own, where the humans aren't aware of their presence. When you start having to fight off sleep during times that you shouldn't be tired, you may be being visited by a softku who wants to feed. Sometimes a person has extremely delicious dreams and is followed by multiple softkus, this may cause them to appear to be narcoleptic.
