Hunters of the Serengeti

(Originally posted on Deviant Art on September 16, 2013. I'm also just copy/pasting the description)

This is a commission for Tetanus over on FA that i've been working on on and off for the last two months.
Secondly, this is by far the most action oriented scene I've ever managed, not to mention the most subjects I've had in one image. We have an anthro hyena (tetanus), an anthro painted dog ('cuz I didn't want him to be lonely), a pride of hunting lions, and two boars. The boars and lions have been increased in size because that's what I wanted to do. I'm also not used to drawing boars or lions so I'm pretty sure I botched the anatomy pretty badly, but I tried.
I watched so many youtube videos on hunting lions to try to get the poses to look somewhat rational. The idea for the boar attacking the male lion in self defense came from one video I watched were these lions were trying to protect some cubs from a herd of cape buffalo. They ultimately failed in their goal, but it was fairly interesting to watch. I watched another where a pride of lions tried to take down an elephant. I watched another where a group of hyenas ripped the tail right off a lioness. She lived, she just have a little nub afterwards, but that's okay, she managed to rip the ear off one hyena and maim another. XD I watched several archery videos, but I still think the painted dogs pose is off. I also watched 300, Troy, and Gladiator a few times to get down a general idea for the spear pose. He's supposed to look like he's sliding into the boar, but...meh
Unfortunately, I no longer have the links to the videos I watched as I had to reformat my computer (again) about midway through this. Thankfully, I saved the PSD of this to stash beforehand.
Feel free to interpret your own story about this.

Art is mine.
