Thought I'd give you a glimpse at my convoluted process while I struggle with finishing other things. While I can often draw poses just fine at a reasonable scale, sometimes I get frustrated and need to start out a bit smaller. Like, less-than-an-inch-tall smaller.
Alice in this picture was drawn directly onto the blank side of the paper at pretty close to the size it shows up on a desktop monitor, but I had so much trouble with the other two that I had to flip the paper over and sketch out their poses at this tiny scale. For some reason I do better at fine detail than broad motions.
So then I scanned it at 1600 dpi, sketched over it in Photoshop, and transferred it to the laptop so I could trace over it comfortably. (It was during this stage that the fox on the left became a jaguar.) Then I filled in the details, darkened the lines I would need to ink, and scanned the result. And even after all that, I had to tilt the cat's head back and add a visible mouth. *WHEW!*
And that's how sausage is made, kids! Any questions?
