yarn tail first try by Ferinoch (critique requested)

yarn tail first try (critique requested)

Ferinoch

Decided to try out making yarn tails. This was my first try, with a thin braided yarn core. I like how it loks but am gonna try for another with a new method I found on line. The chain thing at the top is some chain maile I made, simple stuff but nice looking.

Thanks go to the lovely   l0st for the photo.

I would love to critique this as I also enjoy making yarn tails. which type of species is this tail supposed to be? c:

okay! so here's my critique! c:
wolf tails are very thick, so in the future I recommend that you try using a thicker braid for your core. you can use any kind of trashy cheap yarn for this, so I recommend using "red heart" brand yarn for your cores. when I make a fluffy tail, I use an entire skein of yarn for the core.

as for the yarn used for the fur, I can't really tell too well from this photo but the yarn seems to be of a poor quality or perhaps the individual tufts aren't brushed out enough to get that super soft fluffy texture! the yarn I love using most for tail fluff is lion brand, or any type of yarn that is traditionally used for making baby stuff. I spend about 3-5 minutes or more brushing out every individual tuft of fur (and each tuft is generally made with about 6-7 pieces of yarn for extra fluffiness)
after this, I use a straightener on a very high setting (usually between 8-10) for a few seconds. then, I brush it out one more time, and straighten it once more as well.

it's a very long and painful process, but well worth it if you were looking to make this into a hobby! :D
