Headcanon: accepted. I can actually just see Fluttershy doing this and completely hamming it up - not where anypony could ever see her, of course.
Oh, and I'm going to go with unicorn traders selling limited top-ups of magic from market stalls for a few bits. Enough for the odd suspiciously magnetic hoof, floating mirror, or Pinkie Effect.
