DJ was born a Drow, or dark elf but his mother who had the ability to shape shift somewhat was stuck as a dingo for a good part of her pregnancy so DJ ended up picking up some train like his dingo dad having a small muzzle and somewhat different ears.

His mum did find a way to get back to being her normal self to give birth, but some of the ability to change shape was passed down to him only it's keyed to his emotions and when he is in a certain mood he will change shape weather he wants to or not.
