Quentin "Quixote" Adams

Name: Quentin "Quixote" Adams
Age: 37 (DOB: 7-3-1971.) Note: The series opens in April 2009.
Height: 6'0
Weight: 450 lbs

Quentin was born the third child to a blue-collar autoworker family in a working class suburb of Flint. He met Milo and Tom in fifth grade, after his school had been closed, and the students from his part of the suburb were bussed in to the more affluent elementary school that served Tom and Milo's area. He repeated fourth grade once, and routinely depended on help from Milo and Tom as they progressed through middle and high school. However, while he struggled in his academic classes, Quentin also found his calling as an artist--whether sculpting in his art classes and the metal shop in high school or engaging in graffiti in the evenings.

Quentin spent his junior year (aged seventeen) trying to create an identity for himself, as he realized that adulthood was looming. He experimented with both new looks and nicknames almost every month. Likewise, it seemed that his choices of preferred artistic media changed just as often: painting, sculpting, drawing, cartooning, graffiti, mixed media. Unbeknownst to his friends, Quentin's father had been laid off from the shop and had turned into an abusive drunk. To seek solace, he frequently hid out in the mens restroom of a local mall, where he began to explore his sexuality with strangers. One day, while reading Don Quixote in English class, Daws affectionately drew the connection between the book's title character and his friend's free-spirited, dreamer nature. By the end of the week, the name stuck with him for what would be the remainder of his life.

When Milo and Tom went to college, Quixote stayed behind and made a living with his art--even if it meant house painting. In his mid twenties, he got into a relationship with a man who eventually dumped him to marry a woman. With an eviction notice looming, he turned to Tom Mulligan for help. Having just lost his parents, Tom let Quixote move into the basement, to keep company in the house. "Mulligan Manor" was born...and Quixote has yet to make a rent payment some ten years later.

Quixote is a flighty but mellow free spirit, prone to manic swings in artistic expression that can change weekly. He's learned to see the best in worst situations and to look for the simple things in life, having not had very many himself, which gives him a quirky sense of optimism that frequently combines with his random, manic swings. When the series opens, he's elated that his childhood friend (whom he's dubbed "the prodigal grizzly") has come home to settle after being away for so long. Likewise, he meets another local artist (Stefan) who has just settled in the area and seems to have a tempering effect on his more extreme swings. Considering the emotional baggage that the other housemates bring in, he's probably the most well-adjusted person in the house, next to Tom. He simply has focus issues in life.
