Inktober 2017 - Day 23

farorenightclaw

Back on track with the daily Inktobers! Here's Day 23 from Thornwolf's prompts, a pushmi-pullyu! These are from Doctor Doolittle and are supposed to be gazelle/unicorn hybrids. I ended up going with a Grant's gazelle for the horns and markings here - doing gazelle and antelope markings is always fun because they tend to vary widely from individual to individual. The original photo I was looking at had very little white on its face and small dark tearstreaks. The one I ended up referencing the markings from had a lot of white on the face, dramatic tearstreaks, a black band on the bridge of its muzzle, and a lot of white on the body. The picture I looked at for the side-on face reference had even darker markings than that! Its horns were also much less curved than the other two. So much variety!

Art by me!

I just realized that until this post, I've never seen "pushme-pullyou" written down. I always assumed it was spelled the way I wrote it there. x)

    Anyway, nice job!
