So, I was inspired by a text survival game I tried recently. It involved nanites and mutations, and playing a human trying to survive until evacuation. There’s lots of weird creatures running around, and losing a fight to them results in getting a random mutation related to them. Naturally I was playing as Gaius, since he’s the sort to rough it through a post-apocalyptic city with just a backpack and pocket knife.

My favorite moment was when a female wyvern jumped Gaius, clawed him to near-death, then spat a giant glob of amber-colored adhesive goo on him. The stuff hardened quickly, and the wyvern rolled gunked-up Gaius into a ball, then sat on him for several hours - basically incubating him.

When he broke out of the amber egg-like prison later, he’d gone through some intense changes. In particular, I love how the body change noted bat-like wings with some retained articulation, and the inability to stand bipedaly for very long, making it necessary to rest his upper body on his wing-arms. Wrapping my head around what that’d look like and how he’d move got my artist drive itching.

I tried to get a good blend between his human-wyvern hybrid parts, keeping his base skin tone but adding the darker brown wyvern hide. You’ll see some other rough sketches come along shortly after this piece.
