The Year 2020 by Evianrei

The Year 2020

Evianrei

I'm sure most people would say 2020 was a bad year, but I honestly can't bring myself to say the same.

Yes, 2020 brought a new illness around, followed by what I believe to be silly lockdowns and mask requirements. I'm of the opinion that freedom is more important than safety and found that a lot of people were ready to give away their own freedom (and other people's) for the idea of safety. (If you want to wear a mask and stay home more power to you but I don't think you should be able to bark at everyone that they should too). Thank goodness I live in a less strict area on those fronts. It seemed to me that the only important thing was the illness, not any other illness, or mental health, or people's ability to provide for their family, or the damage done when kids/spouses are forced to stay in abusive homes 24/7. The cure was worse than the disease in my mind.

And yes, I think my belief in election integrity went out the window this year. A shame, but it is what it is.

Overall though I cannot bring myself to say 2020 was a bad year. Not when God gave family more time on this Earth. 2020 was the year my second son came into the world, and God blessed our family and protected us financially. No, I can't say the year I saw my mom again was a bad year. 2020 was the year my husband and I celebrated five years married, that's not a bad thing! Not at all. We spent this year working together to fix up our house and improve our living situation. Yes, we were stuck inside for the 9 months of 'two weeks to flatten the curve', but we made the best of it. I learned a ton of new recipes and things about cooking, I got back into art for a bit.

No, 2020 wasn't a bad year, at least for us it wasn't. Everyone saying so makes me laugh at articles like this. Yes, it may have been the worst year for some people, truly, and I'm sorry to those who struggled. But to say it has been the worst for everyone is, simply not true.

Looking forward to what 2021 brings!
