Maximilian Tik Dowr was a renowned detective of his time. He solved several cases, such as the Candle Wax Killings, and the Typewriter Terrorist. However, at the height of his career, he was brutally killed while on the trail of a murderer.
October 31, 1927, Maximilian and his partner chased their suspect into a clock tower. His partner was fatally shot in skull, and Max in the arm. While he was gasping in pain, the killer hit him in the stomach with a rifle, and then pushed Max from a small window in the tower. Upon impact, his entire skull was smashed in, except for his right eye.
Father Time watched all of this, and decided to show pity for Max, and gave him another life--a life as a servant of Time, solving time-related crimes. He has "II" carved into the skin around his left eye (symbolizing his remaining and intact eye and "II" on a clock face) and "XI" (he died at exactly 11:00 PM).
He has not forgotten about his death, and when he finds his killer, he'll have his revenge.
From a long time ago.
