Commission Guidelines by Endium

Commission Guidelines

Endium

If you're requesting a commission from me, here's a bunch of things you should know first:

I take commission requests in my journals

Stop noting me!

Your Character

I don't particularly like drawing uncommon or overly complex characters. Yes some artists enjoy that sort of thing, I'm not one of them. If you really, really, really want me to draw an uncommon and or complex character wise you're going to have to offer to pay me more for me to consider it.

One of the reasons why I don't particularly like uncommon or complex stuff is because I like to do sequence and animated works, and the nature of that medium makes complexity highly impractical. This is why most characters of shows that are animated along more traditional methods are simplistic looking. Original concept art of characters of shows you've seen were likely more complicated looking initially but were simplified to make things easier on the people doing the drawing and animation.

I also avoid drawing humans, or things that look too close to humans. While I can, I just don't find it that fun or enjoyable to do; so don't ask.

References

I require a reference to do work. I don't care how horribly mangled the reference picture is, I can work off nearly anything; just so long as the character's key features are displayed. Odds are very high I will skip requests that lack references.

Describe what you want in detail I'm not a mind reader

This ranges from pose, what is shown, or not shown, mood, background. I'm not a huge fan of artistic license, I know other artists are; but again I'm not one of those people. I just try to draw what I personally find visually appealing, and that's as close to my 'artistic license' as I get. I like to test and express myself on my own time with my own characters when I feel the need arises. I'm not comfortable with working with other people's characters on ideas I've not yet expressed.

I typically don't do back and forths

Or in other words when I read over commission request I'll do it and finish it or I skip it. I don't agonize over pose or press for details that often. Once again, I know other artists do, I don't. The only exception to this is if you're on my livestream while I'm working on your particular image, then you're free to poke and prod me about this and that all you want.

Another exception to this is on larger projects, in where getting things 'perfect' is more important.

Make sure you have permission

If you're including other characters that are not your own, make sure you have permission. I'm personally not a big fan of surprises, because when it comes to surprises most of the time it turns out it's something horrible.

Payments

I won't hound you for money, the prices I list or quote are more of guidelines or suggestions anyways. I only ask for payment after I'm done an image so you can judge for yourself how much it's worth to you or how much you're willing to pay for it. Which means yes that you can walk away from an image and pay zero dollars for it, it just means that what I did was worthless; and I can accept that (I sometimes feel I've done a less than adequate job) though at the same time, it just means I'm probably going to skip any future commission requests from you. Though for people reading this and thinking "OMG so many people must stiff you!" Let me say that most people tip me more than I request, and that they do enjoy what I put together for them enough to give me a little extra. That and I haven't had anyone deliberately not pay me (sometimes life happens, and life can throw a looooot of things at you)

Other Thoughts

I'll change the information inside here if and when I have information I need people to be aware of when commissioning me.
