An Asteroid Tack - collage

Elisa

A support ship for the "Asteroid Muncher". This one is much smaller - "only" 1km in length - and designed to steer asteroids towards the mothership for processing.

The umbrella-like, folding antenna is designed to generate a parabolic gravity field in front of the ship, accelerating the asteroid without the need of physical contact. The big, primary engine ring is optimized for an unidirectional, wide open pusher wake, used during asteroid hauling; the smaller rear engine ring is used during transfer and maneuvers.

These ships mostly operate with no crew but can accomodate 15 (3 shifts of 5) for up to two weeks. With no crew, mission endurance is limited only by fuel and can last for several months.
