Name Pronunciation: Nah-kl Cai-ah-nah
These tiny little lizards measure just 2 inches long from snout to the base of the tail. They're adapted to spend nearly all of their lives in shallow creeks, coming onto land to bask and lay eggs. Both adults and hatchlings feed on aquatic insects, snails, fish eggs, and fish (if they can catch them). They're covered in tough, thick spikes all over making them a tricky meal for predators.

This turned out to be very challenging to paint. I have a new rule of not abandoning projects though, no matter how much it's troubling me. Rather than shying away from anything out of my comfort zone, it's keeping me in these new areas and completing them, even if they don't turn out how I wished. In this case, it was the water. I don't paint it often enough. What's especially challenging is that I want watery areas in Lician to be bright and clear but I'm still at the point where I need to rely on darker colors to make it look better. It's far too dark here, but it'll have to be something I improve on in the next piece.
