Shadow Figure by Driphtyr

Shadow Figure

Driphtyr

A typical paranormal investigation. Here we see Zoey, in the corner of a dark building, waiting for her Ovilus to speak. She's bored and browsing Facebook, not paying attention to the... unusual sighting in the hallway.

In paranormal investigation, an Ovilus is used to "speak" words associated with particular electromagnetic energies. It's the same energy theoretically emitted by spirits. Of course, circuits and nearby phones (cough Zoey) can cause the Ovilus to speak words... one tour guide who works for Aradale Ghost Tours says that the Ovilus often reads "Apple" when his iPhone gets a message, and "Apple" or "Supper" throughout parts of the complex. He believes there must be an active circuit on a timer, as these two words pop up frequently, and usually at intervals.

And the... unusual encounter... Zoey is missing out on is what is known as a shadow-person. In paranormal investigation, a shadow-person is often associated with negative energies or a painful death. The beauty about catching a shadow-figure is that different kinds of equipment pick up on it, not to mention you can SEE something darker than the natural darkness. Of course, this could be chalked up to wishful thinking. However, when a shadow walks through a laser-grid, when no one's moved, that's when things become interesting... of course, the first thing a paranormal investigator does is find out what it's NOT. If, after going through a list of possibilities (someone moving, a trick of the eyes, wind moving a curtain, etc), an event (shadow-person, orb of light, voice, sound, movement, etc) still cannot be accounted for... THAT'S when it's considered unusual. Of course, there's the possibility that explanations may be overlooked, and something very logical may have been behind the event.

The room is based on the upper floor of the Bull Pit at the Mayday Hills asylum in Beechworth, Victoria. Of course, Zoey wouldn't be silly enough to go alone to building where 15-to-25-year-old-males were housed... would she?
