Bast facing off against a hideous nightmare creature in defense of an evidently unconscious (or really really tired) Lilith. He's tapping into his power, as evidenced by his burgeoning halo. This is one of the earlier concept pieces for DreamKeepers, when I was experimenting with art styles. The fully painted look was really fun to try out, but I prefer to leave the lineart visible in the comic, as it gives it more of a dynamic feel - kind of like a "it would be possible to see me animated!" type of feel. Although I think this style works really well for a one - shot illustration. A lot of the lighting here helped inspire more lighting effects in the series.
