In the ref I was given the hands were monster-like, pointy and pure white. I thought the end result looked weird too, but I didn't want to give them too much definition and lose the monster-quality.

I love the shading in her hair; it's quite lovely! With the smooth blues and white highlights, it looks like a slice of the ocean she's sitting in front of -- and the view of the ocean is well-done, too. Good job on that! :3
I'm a little confused by her hands, though, since everything else is shaded. Are they supposed to be stark white, or are they fading into some variety of mystical transparency/translucency? If they're stark white, adding a little shading in a light color or light grey can help add a little more depth to them and make them look a bit more 3D and solid. If, on the other hand, they're fading, showing a little bit of what's behind them in a lighter or tinted color can give them a translucent effect.
