Tinamous are secretive birds that are more likely to be heard calling than seen. Their feather colors provide camouflage in dense vegetation where they spend most of their time. Their feet are specialized for walking, running and scratching on the ground for seeds or insects.

Size: 40 in (102 cm)

Habitat: low dry shrub land of Argentina and southern Chile.
