Black-collared Wyvern by DarkRiyokoStudios

Black-collared Wyvern

DarkRiyokoStudios

This was released back in July of this year and I forgot to post it (or the others that are currently active). This is one of my favorite sprites that I've created and I'm super flattered to see it being used. The male is on the left, female on the right.

Black-collared Wyverns on Tale of Dragons (http://taleofdragons.net/index) are © to the site and myself and are not permitted to be used without approval.

This egg looks poisonous.

With a creak and a crack, the egg pops open! The newborn dragon is very observant.

This baby dragon is very observant. It’s getting stronger every day and seems very surefooted.

Black-collared wyverns are a very aggressive species. Extremely predatory, these wyverns will even kill their own siblings for more food. Until old enough to fly, pups reside in their mountain nests; more accurately described as small caverns within the cliff face. The female adults are very protective of their young and have small, toxic spines that line the nape. When in distress protecting her clutch, the female will flare her wings forward and lower her head to block entrance to the cave. Because of these spines, courting males secrete a mucus on their underbellies during mating season. The eggs and fledglings have warning markings to deter predation, though the fledglings are not actually poisonous to eat.
