An entry for the deviantart group CetaMonthlyChallenge's July contest about endangered cetacean species.

The Maui dolphin is a subspecies of Hector's dolphin. This is the smallest and rarest dolphin subspecies. It's also known as the North Island Hector's Dolphins since they live on the west coast of that part of New Zealand; the other Hector's dolphins live around the South Island and are endangered (still several thousand left), while the Maui dolphins are critically endangered.

I might make these OCs even though I've been trying to keep most of my dolphin OCs as north Pacific species for my novel... but I could have one or two Maui dolphin OCs anyway perhaps, maybe I could make up a little story of their own... ;o;
