Lie back on a field of grass
Look up at sky's unbroken blue
Watch the sun in its silent course
Blink as a shadow eclipses the light
Trace the edge of silhouetted wings
Hold your breath in awe
Watch a moment longer
Then let your eyes close
The bright sky fading to black
*
Open your eyes again
Marvel at the field of green below
Faint waves traveling through the grass
Be held aloft in sky's embrace
Whispering wind running over your wings
Feel sun's heat upon your back
Breathe in the chilled air
Let it out in a soft sigh of wonder
Eyes closing as you listen to the wind
*
But as you open them once more
Green is replaced with sky's blue
The sun again alone in its course
Look as hard as you can
Trying to find some trace
But the shadow has vanished
Stare at the sun in disbelief
The pain willingly endured
As it masks heart's agony
*
Wonder whence came that shadow
Whither it has now gone
And if it shall ever come again...
Not based on an experience I actually had, but the imagining of this was still a painful experience....
Some things do not make sense. Why they should still hurt even less....
