Harbour Lighthouse

From the Harbour Town Lighthouse website:

"A hurricane made landfall on Hilton Head in the year 1898. Adam Fripp, the lighthouse keeper at that time, lived with his daughter in the cottages (now located at the entrance of Harbour Town).

"Working desperately during the height of the storm, Fripp suffered a fatal heart attack while in the light tower. His daughter, wearing a bright blue summer dress, found him before he died. As the wind howled about the tower, in his dying wish he implored his daughter to 'keep the light burning no matter how dangerous the storm.' And that is what she did throughout the storm and for several days thereafter, sloshing through hip- deep water to climb the tower and replenish the lamp. Many times she had to climb over her dead father until help finally arrived to support her efforts. She died of exhaustion and sorrow only a short time thereafter.

"It is said the image of a 'blue lady' can sometimes be seen near the cottages at Harbour Town and chilling sounds of wailing and moaning can be heard at the skeleton light tower that is located in Palmetto Dunes."

This is the second year I have visited this lighthouse, and it's always a fun little activity to climb to the top and absorb the wonderful view of Harbour Town and the surrounding areas on Hilton Head Island. I tried to take an HDR shot of the lighthouse, and while it did not come out looking very realistic, I really like the effect that it created.
