Carline adopted Vivian when he was 1 year old; She was a goat lady who was 24 at the time and adopted him noting her near-infertility and romantic inability. Raising him through elementary school, she worked at home as a caterer, cooking large amounts of food for other's enjoyment. One customer dared her to eat the entire meal she had prepared for them, in exchange for a much higher payment. Knowing she needed the extra money as she was in debt at the time, she complied, and by the end of the day was bedridden due to her overstuffed stomach. The next day, she was paid to cater to the same place again, and the same event happened over and over again day after day until she was used to being overstuffed; In fact, her stomach almost expected it, being incredibly unsatisfied without massive quantities of food.

This of course brought several pounds of weight at first, but it was only a negligible amount compared to what she'd gain during Vivian's middle school years. Eventually, she became comfortable with Vivian being in high school but ate massive quantities of food simply because she was hungry.
