The Screeching Whiptail by Daaberlicious

The Screeching Whiptail

Daaberlicious

Beta-4's inhabitants haven't ever stuck around long enough in the wilderness to document many things in detail, particularly owing to how dangerous its wildlife is, but they have a lot of stories.
Most are normal-
"Critters like wolves out there! They even howl! Majestic, but I feel like they didn't want me there."
"I saw a really pretty bird thing the other day. I tried to sketch it, but I can't draw worth a diddly."
"Heard something yowl about a mile away- Thought I'd stop mushroom hunting for, heh, a week?"
Some are more well known such as Gervukks, hatecoughers, and mooleks, which are either lethal pests or unusually nice for the fauna of the small moon.
Then there are tall tales of the kind a small colony makes up when the internet hasn't arrived on a trade ship yet.
The Bonk-Thump- A club limbed ape beast known for lightly bashing things on the head that it's scared of.
The Starbird- Almost like a phoenix, but rather a majestic sparkling creature that followed the original colony ship along solar wind to see its colonists safely to their new home.
Or even the Honk- Basically every colonist's joking explanation for loud organic noises without a known source.

But then there's Leo's favorite- The Screeching Whiptail- A hideous, boney, bug-like monster with a long muscular tail it uses to pull its victims heads closer to its mouth before using its long, rope like tongue to find the nearest open hole in the head and worm its way down to the heart, before wrapping around it and ripping it out and into its waiting jaws-
Okay, look, we're pretty sure it doesn't exist, alright? It's just a story. No, Leo's grandpa did not get killed by a whiptail. Don't say that, Leo. That's stupid. You're scaring Sam again.

A Patreon sponsored sketch for October!
In all honesty, I don't have a lot of ideas for real monsters on Beta-4, but I'm sure what's actually waiting out there is not much better.
