This really speaks to me. I don't know how much you or the commissioner thought about the implications of it, but it works on two levels for me. The whole "we wear a mask to hide the sadness" is obvious and well done. But there's also the disconnected idea that the mask is not just fake, but really fake - another level of reality. Less complex and more emotive in simple ways. Then I see the toon ink being poured on and I think, "Is he pouring it on himself? Is someone else pouring it on? If so, who? SOCIETY?"
I definitely think too much about this sort of thing.
Nah, that's what I was going for, totally. Been in a bad place recently, and... well, just because I'm not an artist doesn't mean I can't still get vent art.
