It was brought up recently, so I thought I'd explain some:

Gerald is a 5 year old boy who is adopted by Raleigh (while Devon pouted in the corner because he's not fond of kids and Raleigh keeps trying to collect them). He's basically a sponge for information and absolutely brilliant with mechanics and problem solving. It's very possible that the majority of the adults he lives with are stupider than he is, and he will definitely grow up to be smarter than all of them. His background is unknown, outside of coming from an orphanage, and his unrelenting stoicism doesn't do anything to illustrate his past, either. On the upside, it's certain he's had a fairly safe and comfortable, if parent-less, childhood. Overlook, a city built on an ocean bluff and Gerald's hometown, is the most prosperous and one of the best guarded cities in the world.

As the story stands, Gerald isn't introduced until a few months into the main characters' stay in Overlook. We try to keep information pertaining to the story fairly limited and mostly just share things associated with character backgrounds and world development. We're basically in love with everything in this universe, though, so it's easy to end up sharing stuff that we probably shouldn't, like Gerald or Devon's finger getting cut off. This project is our baby and will likely be a long standing one for us; it's an incredibly long story, a literal epic, and we enjoy working on the irrelevant details of the universe as well as we enjoy working on the narrative. Being project based in our free time, we can only produce so quickly and projections are vague at best, but we're currently building reference material for the flora, fauna, and functionality of the universe that we can't wait to share.
