Elves, having a significant amount of plant-like biology, have the ability to partake in the consumption ritual. It basically consists of them meditating and not moving for a a few years, which makes them grow significantly in size, toughens and darkens their skin (which is highly sensitive to sunlight) and develop, thick needle-like hair. Only a handful exist in the world and they guard the oldest forest made up of the largest trees (Daevon, which Devon named himself after).

Devon doesn't actually have the patience to follow through with such an endeavor. He probably wouldn't be able to sit still for the first week.
