Morvendi Ref - CLOSED species

CoiledDragon

So I created these monsters way back in 2011, and just continued to sketch them all the time but kept forgetting to make a proper reference sheet for them! But at last, I am done, and can present them to the public :D

These are a CLOSED SPECIES, meaning unless I give you express permission to make one, or you buy one as an adoptable, YOU CANNOT MAKE ONE! However, I do plan to release a small batch of specially themed ones for Halloween! "But Jordi," you say "theyre so plain how can you possibly make them halloween themed??" YOU WILL SEE...

Info
These are Morvendi, dubbed "Death Deer" for their prominent Cervine appearance. They can live in nearly any environment presented them, one of the most resilient of species, however they're more commonly found in woods, swamps, and rugged, mountainous regions. They are carnivorous, and inherently vicious and easily provoked. Although their antlers are merely for show , their stick thin legs are very powerful and their hooves sharp. The teeth are nothing to snort at either, razor sharp and made for shredding into tough carcasses, both old and fresh.

The fur of a Morvendi doesn't vary much, varying shades of grey to obsidian black, with an albino Morvendi being the rarest mutation, and only one having been sighted in hundreds of years. Their eyes, however, are a wide variety of color, piercing out from the night and reflecting light directed at them. They are pupiless, and see heat rather than normal vision. A strange, natural vapor is emitted from their hooves as well, often matching the eerie glow of their eyes. The source of this vapor is currently unknown, and the direct effect is also unknown, as anyone who gets close enough to test the gas is killed moments later.

They are incredibly fast creatures, running at top speeds of 40 MPH when given an open range, and with hooves that are made to grasp uneven or even marshy terrain. Morvendi live in small, familial herds, usually containing 3-4 members and they run a territory of about 50 square miles for hunting. They have no natural born enemies, with surprisingly tough furred hide, and are a menace to human farmers who are often forced to move away, or rally in hopes of killing some of the herd.

Most Morvendi females produce one to three offspring per mating cycle - which is about 4 years apart - however only one fawn will see its way into adulthood, the strongest killing its siblings to reduce a threat to food supply or dominance. The Morvendis front pointed teeth are developed solely to tear into flesh, being both hunters and scavengers. One recorded incident in captivity resulted in a Morvendi fawn to be born with normal, interlocking front teeth. It displayed no aggression, unlike noted with previous fawns, and it was killed in moments by its sibling.

Because they are so hard to kill - even an entire village may succeed in felling one Morvendi - witches and magic users seek out Morvendi fur, antlers and hooves for the rarest of spells and potions. The market is incredibly high, however very few hunters have mastered a way to take one down, and even fewer are foolish enough to make a career out of it. Regardless of reward.
