I'm not "on the bandwagon" as far as Twilight becoming a princess, mostly because you should be able to become an alicorn magically. I was under the impression that a horn or wings or neither were traits that you were born with. But apparently not.

I also don't see how there could possibly be another season after this. It's not the mane six anymore, it's the mane five and the pony formerly known as Twilight Sparkle the unicorn. (Would also make a terrible band name.) The only way to make it work is if the others ALSO become alicorn princesses, and we all know that's no gonna happen.

Regardless, I cried like a little bitch during the episode. My feels were stabbed repeatedly. And I did enjoy it regardless.

I think it works for Twilight because in a lot of ways, she's always been more than just another unicorn from the very beginning. At a young age, she was already top of her class in magic use. Personally, I think she always had the alicorn in her, but she wasn't old enough for it to really come out at the time. I think what Celestia did was coax it out. Alicorns are pretty special creatures in the show's mythos. Their presence is never really explained in any way shape or form, so there's no real way to tell if they were born as alicorns or if magic morphed them that way. It is for certain, though, that alicorns are creatures of extreme magical power, as is referenced in the episode where Trixie acquires the Alicorn Amulet. Thus, I think Twilight was always destined to be an alicorn even though she wasn't necessarily born as one.

Lauren Faust actually stated that by making her an alicorn, they ruined all the plans she had for Twi. Personally, I never liked her character in the beginning, but I grew fonder of her later. My reasoning? She was proof that you could be special without being a princess. This show is aimed at kids, and basically they just told a bunch of little girls that they're not special enough to be a princess.

Alicorn Twilight was Hasbro's reason to make a new toy. End of story.

Well, that is one way to look at it, but I think it's kind of a negative way to view it. I actually think it goes the opposite way, telling girls that you can be something special if you work hard enough at it and take to heart the lessons you gain from that hard work. I don't see it as Hasbro wanting to just sell another toy, though that has always been the purpose of the My Little Pony franchise, even in the 80s. Still, I think that's a negative way to take Twilight's character development. I love Faust's work on the show and her ideas, but she left it and I have no sadness in her "plans being ruined" for Twilight. If she had stayed on board with the show, maybe she could have held some weight to change it. As it stands now, it's not her decision.

Apologies for taking the side of the argument that applies after age 10. You're not exactly going to change my mind about it.

Regardless, they've still basically ruined everything. How are they supposed to have a show with Twi doing "princess stuff" and the others not able to see her? The show is about her AND her friends, not just her becoming some fancy princess and leaving everyone behind because she's now better than them. In my opinion, it should have been ALL her friends becoming Alicorns if it's that easy to do. She wouldn't have ended up as "special" as she is without them putting up with her shit.

Besides, Rarity would make a fabulous princess.

If you listened to her speech, Twilight mentioned she wouldn't be where she is WITHOUT them. She's not going to abandon her friends just because she's now a princess. Twilight has not changed in the slightest. She's still the same character, she's just grown up and realized her destiny. As for your opinion, it's fine that you have it. I'm not trying to change that. If you want to be the pessimistic "no one gets anywhere unless they're royalty" mindset, by all means. Please continue on. But life is very much like the more optimistic side of the argument: you don't get anywhere without hard work and determination. And that is what I think that particular episode was trying to portray. Celestia said as much in her dialog with Twilight in the who-knows-where they were. And, again, Twilight mentioned she wouldn't be at her position without her friends. The show's not over, it's just developing along a different line that Faust had in mind. Have faith in the writers. They know what they're doing.

They're going to do whatever they want regardless as to what the fans think, so it's not like it matters a damn how any of us see it. I have no faith in the writers because all they're out to do is please the people that pay them, and all the people that pay them are out to do is make money.

And I am not under the mindset of "no one gets anywhere unless they're royalty", I'm under the mindset of "even if I work hard the world will still manage to fuck me over regardless as to if I deserve it or not". I have not seen this "optimistic" life view you have, and the greater majority of people haven't either. All I'm here to do is show off pieces of mediocre art that I'm likely not proud of. I'm not here to get into pointless and stupid arguments over a show that I enjoy is going downhill fast with someone that clearly never gave a damn about my opinion in the first place.

That grammar in the last sentence sucked. And it won't let me fix it. But you get the concept. And if you don't, feel free to review the revised version:

Life sucks and you die tired. Stop whining. It sucks for us all. Just some of us know when to keep working.

Don't want me to whine? Shouldn't have commented in the first place.
