I think he looks better like this, since it gives him a little bit more definition around the face and belly, having them be a different color than the main body, and the dark grays still make the ears and tail-tip stand out. While keeping the option of the blue for when I'm feeling a little... different.

Modern-Day Addendum: It's good when you make a reference sheet that just works, I have trouble thinking of a way to put everything on a single image, but I feel this fits so well for the character.
