Yeah, I believe it was the same color she had in the show.
They had different rules back then I think, or the animators didn't do any research lol-
I remember Uhura had the red uniform too in the original series, but I've only ever seriously watched Next Generation.
Come to think of it, I'm not quite sure how the whole "redshirt" thing came to be!
