A herd of Grevy's or imperial zebra. I saw a photo in the book accompanying BBC's recent Africa series and was instantly inspired. A little way into the painting I remembered why it has been such a long time since I last drew a zebra or indeed a herd of them. I bloody hate those bloody stripes. This damn thing nearly killed me and took about 6 hours to complete. I'm really pleased with the result though, despite an overload of stripes. My scanner ate some of the colour detail, again. The sepia tones in the drawing came from the fact that the herd inhabits the Saharan desert and gets covered in sepia dust a lot.
Done in water colours and coloured pencils.
