Hatching by Captain Flowers

Hatching

Captain Flowers

Hey! I decided to hop on the bandwagon and make an account. It's more to reserve my name, but it's not going to be my mainsite unless something happens to my DeviantART.

Anyway, I'll be submitting some older pieces that I still like and fix up my profile!

The Hatcher said the egg was close to hatching, and, if Baldor wanted to, he could take the egg and finish hatching it himself. Baldor happily agreed to finish the job himself, leaving a relieved hatcher to tend to the remaining eggs. Clutching the egg tightly to his chest, Baldor jogged back to the forge. Baldor set the egg down on the still warm coals before battening down the forge against the winter weather. The cold was making almost every aspect of Baldor's life more complicated, but the heavy leather flaps, that could be tied down when needed, made it easier to keep the cold out. They also radiated the warmth back in, which helped to make the weather more bearable. But Baldor was still cold, so he wrapped himself in a blanket and settled in by the hearth to watch the egg. As Baldor sat, the air grew warmer, and his eyes grew heavier. Before long, Baldor fell asleep.
The coals heat slowly seeped through the crackled red egg, and ever so slowly, a fissure began to appear at the top of the egg. The hatchling stretched its muscles, rocking the egg back and forth, in an attempt to free itself from its casing. The rocking expanded the crack, until finally the egg gave way. It shattered and the hatchling tumbled onto the coals with a loud squeak.

A sharp squeak jerked Baldor awake, and he whirled around towards the noise. His mouth dropped open at what he saw in front of him. The dragon hatchling sat on the bricks lining the coal, hungrily licking the egg membrane from its body. Baldor had spent hours imagining a strong, thick bodied, drake, but what was in front of him was quiet different. She was, something just told him the dragon was a girl, thin, long, and a wyvern, and Baldor wouldn’t change a thing about her. She was perfect, and she was his.

My character Baldor and his dragon egg hatching. Done for a group!
