Winter Dragon (critique requested)

B Pavlica

A portrait of elder Winter Bird, after the battle for Gryphia when he became known as Winter Dragon.

Warlocks live for up to 150 years and more, if they level their magic well. However, using up physically painful amounts of magic to win back the kingdom he loved so much, Winter's lifespan cut drastically, as he quickly aged in the five years that came after the battle, and died about at the age of 80.

He became a renowned hero and had legends written about him.
He is one of the most famous historical figures in the Run universe and widely recognized as the most powerful and honourable warlock that has ever lived.

In his life Winter won everything, lost everything and then won once again, in the greatest glory imaginable.
In his youth he was the widely recognized leader of the famous Gryphian warlock elite, a close friend of the royal family and a winner of many battles.
With discovery of new weapons, the Dragan kingdom managed to undertake the kingdom of Gryphia in a four year war in which nearly everyone Winter cared for have lost their lives.
Winter and several other high ranked officers have been captured and held in prisons underground. By freezing and breaking his chains, Winter managed to escape and free his comrades, starting an uprising against Dragan kingdom. The word of it had reached Gryphia and the people there started to rebel as well, overthrowing Dragan rule in a massive surprise attack, in which Winter played a major role, using all of his power, no matter how much it hurt him physically (it spell-scarred him permanently).

When Gryphia belonged to it's people again, Winter was offered to rule for the time being, an offer which he rejected, saying he is a warrior, not a king.
He has been ceremoniously dubbed Winter Dragon, due to him not being willing to die until his mission to take back his home was done - which comes from a possibly true legend that dragons refuse to die and therefore live forever.

Even though Gryphia was now safe and newly equipped with the technology taken from the Dragans which enabled them to create guns, Winter was rather melancholic in his last years, as his physical and magical strength as well as general endurance all heavily fell since the battle. He also didn't have any old friends left and had a hard time making new ones.

He died happy however, knowing that he did all he had to do and that he is leaving nothing behind but legends.
