Feels as barren as a post-apocalyptic wasteland dragged from a murkiest dystopia that could only be found (and hopefully so) inside misanthropic novels.

When did this eruption happen precisely, if I may ask?

Definitely curious to see how this would look like in, say, ten years. Nature has a really fervent way to grow back no matter how much it suffers.
Precisely, should one ever feel the need to look for a source of inspiration, a glimmer of hope, a resplendent sparkle of encouragement, he only needs to glare upon the beauty of nature and its resilience, how it grows back despite the destruction which besets it.

Well funny story, apparently I mislabeled this. It's not the Devastation Trail. I'm not sure what particular trail this is. This is around the mouth of the Halema‘uma‘u Crater, however. The actual devastation trail is similar to this, but more brown. The eruption for the devastation trail was from 1959. Read about it here.

I'm not certain about Halema‘uma‘u Crater. It's technically still active so I don't think one particular eruption caused this. Here's the wikipedia page for it.
