No, they're just big swords. This is an earlier version of Tundra in his Cracked-Relativity universe, armored up and armed to the teeth. Sure, it's not the most practical armor out there, but there aren't many foes out there that can hope to land a blow on the malamute when he's going full bore!

The armor really just serves as an enhancement device, increasing strength and agility by delivering a constant flow of Mach to his blood stream.
