Experiment Was A Success

BladeRunner

The various bubbling concoctions made a constant rhythm in the gloomily lit laboratory. Castiel, hunched over a table, mumbled to himself as he moved his hands while he moved organs here and there in his most recent experiment laid out on the operation table, a grotesque sight to behold. The green fur on his face had spots of blue blood. The lion’s face was frowning with concentration.
“And the heart goes here,” he murmured to himself, “And the liver can go here this time…no need for this organ and…there! That should do it.” Castiel stepped back to look at his handiwork. The grotesque creature was an amalgamation of many species body parts with a mask covering where the face should be. Its extra mouths were located on its clawed hands and stomach. Its tail seemed to have belonged to a rat, while its main body seemed to have belonged to a canine of some kind. Each body part was crudely sewn with sutures. “Beautiful,” Castiel marveled, a proud grin growing on his lips. The lion threw off his gore-covered gloves and walked over to a large switch across the room.
“It’s unlikely that you can hear me,” Castiel spoke to the cadaver, “but I’m going to need you to actually work this time. I’m running low on spare body parts and replacements are hard to come by.” Holding his breath, Castiel pulled the switch with a loud CLICK and immediately shut his eyes as a sudden flash of lightning engulfed the whole room, loud crackling noises nearly split Castiel’s eardrums, even though they were turned away from the noise.
There was sudden silence. The room went back to being dimly lit. The sound of chemicals bubbling furiously slowly came to the scientist’s ears and in the middle of the room, the cadaver laid stiff and still. Castiel felt his heart sink. Another failure. Another waste of his time. Now where is he going to find more corpses at this hour-
Hiiiisssss…Castiel froze and ran towards the experiment. Then he saw it. The body-it’s chest began to slowly expand and fall. The experiment is breathing. Slowly, the once lifeless pile of body parts began to stir. First its chest, then its tail and suddenly the body raised its head. It hissed from its mouth on its stomach.
“Gods,” Castiel breathed in awe, “I…I did it. I created life. I finally did it!” The lion threw back his head in glee and laughed, his sounds of glee echoing across the lab. “Welcome to the world A.L. 35.”

A short story of how a mad scientist finally created life without the use of magic. In the City of Leo, magic and science coexist. I made this story based on a prompt journal I got at some cheap store. The challenge was to use the words: crude, replacement, expand, chest
