I have a certain love for the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance series despite the flaws. For people that haven't played it, one of the central conceits is that the world of the game (Ivalice, as it's called) runs parallel to the "real" world, so ordinary people on one side live as all manner of strange characters and demihumans on the other.
As a race of pugdy scholarly critters with voluminous robes, the Nu Mou seems like the only proper species for Blackwell...

While I can agree that the games are pretty long, they're certainly not unbeatable. They're actually on the easy side, though there are a few missions towards the end that can be a bit frustrating if you don't power up your characters a bit. They do have a post-game after the story ends, so you technically can't run out of things to do though... I guess that might count as unbeatable?
