I'm still on the road coming back from my camping trip and finished this not to long ago. Being unable to access the internet I had no way to get references, but we visited a store near the campsite and I found a book filled with amazing wildlife photos. This is my rendering of a grey fox.
Over the course of two days I slowly worked out the fox's head until I was happy with it, then I added the fur over my initial guide lines to finish it up.
Its amazing how when you're completely focused on something other things really don't seem to matter. A lot of the time while I was drawing this my fingers were freezing cold, but because I was so focused I wasn't shivering. Instead the cold air made my movements slower and more precise.
The photo I referenced was by wildlife photographer Bill Lea. I can't find the photo online, probably because it is part of a portfolio and is supposed to stay off the web unless given permission otherwise. Here is the book in which I found the picture: http://www.amazon.com/Great-Smoky-M...../dp/1560373539
Animals are beautiful.
