Prompt: Sirin, Thunderstorm by birdscribbles

Prompt: Sirin, Thunderstorm

birdscribbles

Prompted from this list.

Unlike Kite, thunderstorms held nothing special for Sirin, nor did they frighten her. It was a rare act of nature that could move her to interrupt her personal schedule…..Until Elle came along.

Once the little goblin of a child was steady on her feet, the minute a drop of rain fell to earth, she was racing to be outside and in the downpour, leaving her parents to fly after her to make sure she didn’t catch her death of cold or inattention.

This was less of a problem in the summer, when the rain was more carressing in its warmth than the stinging needles or dreary weeping of autumn, or the chill of spring. Sometimes - if there was no one in sight and Roan was not home - Elle could even entice her mother to join her in romping through puddles and getting splattered with mud.

Blackouts were the height of excitement - they meant adventures in dark, dragon-filled caves that used to be their home, and lighting the fireplace despite the heat of the season, and stories that mom never told any other time while they roasted marshmallows or bits of bread.

Even after Elle grew up, and then moved out, Sirin finds herself pausing when a crash of thunder breaks the air; and if there’s no one around, she’ll nest on the windowsill with a blanket and Bunny or Pixie (the successors of Miss Kitty, though she could never be replaced) and watch out the storm.
