Big, painted commission by deyvarah deyvarah with a Skyrim inspired theme.

The title comes from the online translator that converts English to Dovahzul (the language of the dragons in the Skyrim world and the same language used in Shouts). For the curious, it can be found at http://www.thuum.org/translate.php

Deyvarah originally wanted the title to be "Double Team" but it actually translates into "Double Tea" - which I personally found both ironic and fitting. The artist likes to drink tea when drawing and she had PS crash while shading this picture, losing more than a fair amount of time. Which no doubt required... yes, double tea to motivate her to continue.

I really like how the image turned out. She totally captured the cold, snowy feel Skyrim has with that background. While Skyrim is normally a solitary game, Deyvarah was kind enough to loan her character to the picture. I'm not sure the cheetah needed any help, as he plays a lot of Skyrim, but good company is combat is always appreciated. It does look like he offered the bandana to her as well. Maybe to keep her warm? What a gentleman! But with a tail like that, I'm sure she's right at home in this kind of cold.

When I play as a Khajiit I usually lean pretty heavily on magic, hence the lightning action going on here. Or maybe the cheetah is just trying to piss the dragon off for a more intense fight. Hard to say.

But no matter what the interpretation of the action, I am sincerely thankful to Deyvarah for the effort she put into this picture. I think it turned out great!

Of course, if you want one of your own, you're going to have to go commission her. (I hear she's frequently open for commissions though).

Art and Dey the snow leopard archer belong to deyvarah deyvarah and the cheetah is mine.

Cripes, I've wanted multiplayer in there for SO darn long!

    • Link

You and a lot of other people. And ESO... didn't quite cut it.

      • Link

Yeah, just didn't make it. I just want multiplayer for Skyrim, darn it! That'd be so epic running around with even just ONE friend, although a party of four or something would be even better. Perhaps with scaling difficulty, so it didn't become too absurdly easy with four PCs.

What you're describing is what a lot of people hoped for with ESO. And were terribly disappointed. I think the problem is that companies focus on completely different things when doing a single player game vs. an MMO. And they don't have to. Most MMOs make terrible single player games, and most single player games would be terribly unbalanced in the player(s) favor if they were multi-player. But I don't think that means we can't have both.

I agree with you that Skyrim would have been awesome if they allowed even 2-player. Just to have a PC companion. And it wouldn't have unbalanced the game all that much. Now... 50 people... that's another story.

I just really hope that Bethesda learns their lesson and goes back to spending their effort on making really epic single player games. Or that, if they dabble in the MMO field again, that they listen to all the (valid) complaints about ESO and do make something like a multi-player Skyrim. My biggest fear about ESO was that they would make so much money on it that they would kick the single-player stuff to the curb. Fortunately that doesn't seem to be the case...

Indeed! If I was going to think of how to do it, I'd be tempted to take the same approach they did in Borderlands, where the opponents became tougher and more numerous the more people you added to the party. Which, of course, encouraged team play by dropping better and more frequent loot!

I think you're right, ESO just kind of disappointed everyone from what I've seen. Just didn't make the cut.

            • Link

Yes. I think there are a number of good and fun ways to keep things balanced. ESO tried a few new ideas (their "phasing" thing, for example) but in the end - it still needs to be a fun and engaging game. Which, sadly, ESO wasn't. Oh, and not a blatant money grab too... >_>

              • Link

Yeah, just didn't quite make it. Good concepts, some fun ideas... but just didn't work out. I think the best example I've seen before that was America's Army. AWESOME shooter, tons of fun... but the respawn system sucked so much that it wasn't actually playable. Seriously, who wants to play in a game with a couple minutes of play time between fifteen-minute waits for another round to start?

                • Link

Yes, but I think the point was that it was realistic. That was both the point and the problem, of course. And don't forget the problem with friendly fire too...

Well, I hope we get to see another awesome single player game out of Beth pretty soon, and then let's see what they come up with as the next thing.

                  • Link

Now I actually LIKED the friendly-fire thing. You had to think before you randomly decided to spam grenades everywhere. Honestly, take AA, and add BF's spawn timer and ticket system? I think that'd be my favourite shooter!

And no kidding, I can't wait to see what they come up with after Skyrim! Although I'd actually be perfectly happy with another expansion campaign for Skyrim in the interim. :)

                    • Link

That was actually my problem with the friendly-fire system. I'm good with punishing a player for openly shooting a teammate, particularly in that kind of game. But clearing a room, tossing a grenade in and one of your idiot teammates picks that moment to poke his head into the room and see what's there... frustrating. But, yeah, it really did need a decent respawn system to really be a good game.

I'm ... cautiously optimistic about the next ES game (single-player, I mean). While Skyrim was far from a perfect game, at least it had all the elements that people wanted (werewolves, vampires... hell, they even added mounted combat). So I worry that it's going to be difficult to top Skyrim's breadth of features. But then again, Oblivion -> Skyrim was a huge change so... cautiously optimistic. I just hope we don't have to wait until, say, 2017 to see it!

I think those two problems interrelate to a good deal, to be honest. If it had incorporated a decent respawn system, the FF incidents wouldn't have been anywhere NEAR so irritating. It had so much potential as a game!

About the same here, really. They have a track record of good games... I'd honestly like to see something again on the same line as Skyrim, just with a better crafting and leveling system like they had in the earlier TES games! I'll certainly be watching with great interest, and a finger on the Steam "grab it!" button.

                        • Link

Yes. It's been a long time, but I seem to remember that FF was a serious offense in AA - even if it was accidental. But I do agree, the "kicked from the game - plz wait" combined with the FF rule made it a serious problem.

I would like to see the stealth system improved and enhanced to work better with gameplay for thieves, assassins and (yes) werewolves. I would like to see more of a functioning economy to keep the end-game from being so predictable and boring. I would like to see more consequences to things like crime and I would love to see a guild that didn't take a 1st level character 30 minutes to reach the highest level >_>

And I know this may sound trivial but ... I long for physics enabled tails on the Khajiit and decent looking fur and maybe, just maybe, a return to digitigrade legs...

                          • Link

No kidding! That irritated the hell out of me when I created my first Skyrim character. Gee, they slapped an un-animated tail and a fur skin on the standard human model. Awesome! xP

And yeah, stealth in there is REALLY weird. Sometimes you can walk down the middle of a crowded street in broad daylight without anyone spotting you. Next minute? The random level-2 mook picks you out of deep shadow, in total darkness, from half a mile away.

And yeah, I miss the guilds from the previous TES games, that actually took effort.

                            • Link

Yes, the beast races got little love. I really hope they fix that in the next one. While the graphics are really good, few things break immersion like seeing your tail clipping through furniture, walls, etc. And the tail animations when sneaking or running... yeah.

Stealth, at least for me, was more predictable but equally frustrating. At low levels, you could be in complete darkness, crouched behind a bush and everyone would see you. At high levels, you can walk down a busy street by day and nobody sees you. Unless you accidentally grab something, then everyone knows... sigh.

I believe it's just the "console generation" effect. The publishers have to make games that a complete idiot can solve in an hour, or players lose interest and move on. And whatever you do, you can't actually require the player to either think or remember anything (I'm thinking of Morrowind quests here...). Sadly, I don't think that is going to be getting any better, but I do hope they can layer some easy missions for the kiddies and then some deeper quests for the rest of us. And, yeah, guilds that take more than 30 minutes to reach the top.
