Excation guards:

The planet Kalem is filled with dangerous creatures, many of which would attack an Excation settlement given the choice. The guards deny them that choice.

The gaurds, or Ketakai in the Excations language, are well trained, and often work in pairs, using a combat stratgy of both guards attacking rapidly from different angles. This combat strategy makes it see, as though there are more attackers than there actually is, driving the predator off.

In past times, guards where armed with large blades and spears to pierce the hides of predators, but in recent times their main weapon is a blunderbuss type weapon called the guardian blaster.

The weapon is capable of using four kinds of shells: flashbang rounds to frighten smaller creatures away, flare rounds to mark large creatures and provide light, net launchers to trap animals, and spike rounds for when lethal force is required.

Its relatively simple design, combined by the loud noises it makes, makes it a favourite for weapon collectors, who often pay a premium for older specimens, which can survive in Kalems harsh atmosphere for centuries with little to no damage
