Even in fair weather, the Pillars of Spring are barely visible from home. Getting the opportunity to see these behemoths up close really betrays the little fence post silhouettes I have grown accustomed to seeing outside my window.

15 of the original 21 still list drunkenly above the cloud line, while the remainder have either settled on the underlying ground or sunk completely out of view. All are overgrown and exploding with vegetation, spilling flora and fauna on any rock that happens to poke out from the clouds. All pillars are protected crown property, but that hasn’t stopped the stream of enterprising settlers from homesteading/squatting the more remote locations.

These are surprisingly dynamic structures that seem to slowly drift along predetermined courses. Most pillars still manage to sputter out water that cascades and eventually mists the entire valley. My jacket is still moist from the overbearing humidity. Going to have to let it dry before any mildew lays its claim.
