Now Taking Commissions!

After chatting with Fox Amoore at FA:U last weekend, he's convinced me to open up Character Theme Song commissions!

He does the orchestral thing, but I'm more rock-and-roll. So if you want a 100% original piece of music to go with YOUR character, drop me a line!

Check my Commission Info for details, but right now here's the scoop:

Using piano, drums, voodoo, some amazing fake instruments, and potentially some vocals, you'll end up with a 100% original musical work for your character. I mostly specialize in piano-based pop and rock, but can potentially branch out into other styles.

  • $200+ • Solo keyboard piece (piano, electric piano, etc.)

  • $300+ • Full band arrangement (varies from piano/bass/drums to glockenspiel, mooing, synth…)

  • $400+ • Full band + 1 minute length

Songs would be licensed for nonprofit use (meaning you can post stuff on your profile, your website, to YouTube, etc., but can't use it for your company's commercials or your movie soundtrack). Lyrics aren't going to be included, but they may pop up if the inspiration strikes.

i'm sorry, let me be a little more vocal. as a fellow musician, i would like to know the thought process behind charging 200 dollars minimum for a single song when you can sell an album of songs for less than 20. please don't take this as trolling or being snarky. i just honestly want in on this racket.

well, here's some input from an actual touring professional musician.
We sell albums for anywhere from $10-20 a piece.

TO A THOUSAND PEOPLE. To cover the cost of the actual time and effort it took to make the songs, pay for the instruments, each band member's time and skill to learn and master said instruments and the ability to arrange the music they create into a song. Then we do that 10-20 times PER ALBUM. there's the cost of the electricity that is needed to power some of these instruments. The food we will need to eat to live. The rent on the home, studio, ect that we need to live and work in. The vehicle that we need to get to the studio (if it's not where we live) The gas, insurance, tolls, ect to go to where we can all gather if need be to record the songs, or rehearse for the live shows. Then there's the cost of actually producing the album. Which is a LOT fucking more than $15.

So, since he's CUSTOM MAKING a song SPECIFICALLY for YOU... ONCE... those costs that would be spread over 1,000 albums sold, need to be condensed into ONE song. for only ONE person. There's a VERY good chance that maybe 1 or 10 at most other people would be willing to pay for a song that was custom made for someone else. So, unless you have someone paying your bills (if you don't live at home with mom and dad or someone else paying your way) living costs a shit load of money. And creating music costs more money on top of that.
So, yeah... Commissioned personal music for ONE person, or thing, costs a shitload more than an album that was made for THOUSANDS of people.

you make every single album sound like it's made on the road with the london symphony. where have you toured? i would talk to your manager. haha

It's a matter of the value of personalization of art. You can buy a print from an artist for $10 at a con, or you can commission them to do a single piece for $200. Some of the more popular artists charge upwards of $500 for a single character, simple-background piece.

I've been doing custom music as an entrepreneur for years now, with clients like Bigelow Tea, Coca-Cola, Porter Novelli, the USPS… over the years I've learned what a single instrumental song is worth, and $200 is below market value.

If you disagree, you can feel perfectly comfortable not purchasing a commission.
